On Saturday, 19 July 2025, our youth were given an exciting opportunity to take part in a truly unique event, Teens AI Cooking Jam, hosted by Food Indaba in collaboration with Food Jams. Young people from across Cape Town, including our very own MOT youth from Gardens Commercial High School and Sibelius High School, were challenged to use AI tools to create a recipe from a list of ingredients, cook it, and present it to a panel of judges within 1 hour and 30 minutes.
What followed was hands-on learning, laughter, and creative collaboration. The kitchen buzzed with the sounds of chopping, sizzling, and new ideas taking shape. Young people stepping up, taking the lead, supporting one another, and turning their visions into delicious meals through AI.
We’re thrilled to share that one of the teams from Gardens Commercial High School took home the award for Best AI-Inspired Recipe! While only one team won the title, every young person walked away with something meaningful, such as new skills, boosted confidence, and incredible memories.
This event was more than just a cooking challenge; it was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when youth show up with courage, curiosity, and a spirit of teamwork. These are the very values we encourage at MOT.
