MOT Parents’ Workshop

At MOT South Africa, we believe that building courageous, confident youth starts with strong support at home. That’s why our recent Parents’ Workshop wasn’t just a workshop — it was a powerful reminder of how important parents are in shaping resilient young people and in supporting their kids, especially during their vital years.

The session brought together parents, caregivers, educators, and MOT Coaches with one goal: to bridge the gap between school and home, and create a shared language of Courage to Live, Courage to Care, and Courage to Say No.

What We Covered

During the workshop, we unpacked the core values that MOT builds in young people through our programmes. But more importantly, we explored how these same values can be strengthened at home — through how we listen, how we respond to challenges, and how we model courage in our daily lives.

We also discussed:

  • Effective communication between parents and teens
  • Recognising and affirming strengths in our children
  • The importance of setting boundaries with love and consistency and knowing the difference between giving second chances and enabling harmful behaviour, and when it’s necessary to lovingly set limits versus when it’s time to let go.

A Space for Honest Conversations

Parents shared their own experiences and challenges, from navigating screen time to dealing with peer pressure and academic stress. There was laughter, a few tears, and a strong sense of solidarity. Many said it was the first time they felt truly heard — and truly part of their child’s journey through the MOT programme.

Why It Matters

When parents understand the MOT tools and values, they can reinforce the programme at home — making it more than just something that happens at school. This partnership between MOT Coaches and families builds a stronger, more supportive environment for young people to grow into confident, compassionate adults.
