Showing the Courage to Care on Mandela Day with Ladles of Love

mot and ladles of love

This year on 18 July, our MOT SA team joined hundreds of volunteers at DHL Stadium for a truly special Mandela Day, one filled with purpose, love, and the Courage to Care. Hosted by the incredible team of Ladles of Love, the day was all about nourishing children in need and standing together to fight child food poverty.

We got hands-on in four volunteer activation zones, each one designed to nourish, nurture, and grow:

  • MAKE Zone: Packing sandwiches and food parcels, knowing they’d land in the hands of children who need them most.
  • CREATE Zone: Designing fun, educational materials to spark learning and creativity.
  • CRAFT Zone: Stitching pillow dolls.
  • GROW Zone: Creating edible garden kits to promote sustainability and food security in our communities.

It wasn’t just a day of volunteering, it was a day of connection. We worked side-by-side with individuals, teams, and other organisations, all showing up with the same goal: to make a difference.

We’re reminded of what our Tata Madiba believed in, that each of us has the ability to uplift others and make a difference. His message lives on in every kind act, big or small. At MOT, this aligns so closely with one of our core values: the Courage to Care. It’s about choosing compassion, kindness, and empathy — not just when it’s easy, but especially when it counts.

To the team at Ladles of Love, thank you for creating this space to serve. And to every volunteer who gave their time, energy and heart, you’ve reminded us that together, we can do more!

Let’s keep showing the Courage to Care every day.
