In October, our Courage to Care Day Celebration brought together the community at three schools in Burgersdorp, Eastern Cape. This special day was filled with activities and campaigns focused on kindness and support for those in need.

Two Campaigns, One Goal

Each of our schools led two inspiring campaigns. The first campaign was a recycling project, collecting bottle tops, bread tags, and bread bags. These items will go to the Sweethearts Foundation, which will recycle them and donate a wheelchair to someone in need.

MOT Coaches in Burgersdorp also led an additional campaign to collect essential toiletry items for local schoolchildren in need. Supported by community businesses, the initiative provided meaningful assistance to those who required a little extra help.

Thanks to everyone who donated—together, we’re helping someone gain mobility and assisting those in need in the community!

One of the school principals shared his appreciation for MOT and its goal of creating a warmer, safer and society and for promoting the Courage to Care and Kindness! His words remind us why we celebrate Courage to Care Day—to celebration care, to bring out the best in each other and build a stronger, more caring community.

About Courage to Care Day

Courage to Care Day is all about one of MOT’s key values: the Courage to Care. This value is a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. By caring for others, we become a light for those who may feel left out or in need of support.

As part of the campaign duration, we also hosted a competition, asking students to create videos explaining what courage means to them. It was inspiring to see young people share their thoughts on bravery and kindness! Mthwazi Yibanathi from Mzimkhulu Primary School won and Alexander Deolin from Eureka Primary School won.

About the Sweethearts Foundation

The Sweethearts Foundation helps give the gift of mobility by collecting bottle tops and bread tags. They recycle these items to raise funds for wheelchairs, which they donate to those who need them most. Each school and organization can even nominate someone to receive one of these wheelchairs. For more about their work, visit their website.

Every Little Act Counts

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the Courage to Care Day Campaign. Every act of kindness, big or small, can truly make a difference. Let’s keep spreading kindness and building a warmer community for all!

What makes the MOT programme unique is how each institution truly owns it, allowing the youth to take the lead and make it their own. The learners fully embraced the Courage to Care Day Campaign—from setting up activities to driving participation, they poured their energy and spirit into every part of the day. This ownership is what sets MOT apart, as it empowers young people to shape and celebrate the programme in ways that resonate with their own communities.
