MOT well received at Career Expo in Burgersdorp
On 31 August 2022, the Department of Employment and Labor hosted a Career Expo exhibition in Burgersdorp. A total of 12 stakeholders with 200 young people attending the expo. The MOT Coaches and Sinako Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum (SSEF) presented the MOT Programmes they will implement within the community.
The purpose of the exhibition was to bring the government and other stakeholders closer to the community, especially young people and to create a platform for young people to ask for and receive information, that will assist them in making correct decisions about the future.
This event also created an opportunity, for the Department of Labour to collect data on all young people who are unemployed: to be in the system for possible job opportunities that may come up.
The MOT programme was well received by all stakeholders and youth present, with 28 young people who signed up to participate in the MOT Programmes. “These sessions might also help to keep them off the streets and also create an opportunity for them to be possible MOT Coaches in the future. Ikhala college also enquired about the program showing interest for their students”, MOT Coach and Secretary of SSEF, Ms Sanelisiwe Skweyiya said.
Other stakeholders in attendance were:
- Joe Gqabi District Municipality
- Walter Sisulu Local Municipality
- Department of Agriculture
- Department of Transport
- Department of Sports
- Department of Social Development
- Ikhala TVET College
- Statistics South Africa
