Courage to Care Day Campaign 2024: Making a Difference Together

The 2024 Courage to Care Day Campaign has wrapped up, and we’re excited to share the impact it had across the Western Cape and Eastern Cape. A total of 21 MOT sites took part, with schools, colleges, and organizations coming together to help those in need.

About Courage to Care Day

Courage to Care embodies one of MOT’s core values: the Courage to Care. This value emphasizes the importance of showing care and respect to others and ourselves, providing “jet fuel” to be a light for someone, and including those who feel left out. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating the impact of caring for others and recognizing how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s life.

What We Did

This year’s campaign focused on two big projects:

In both the Western Cape and Eastern, our sites all contributed to collecting bottle tops, bread tags, and bread bags for recycling. These items were provided to the Sweethearts Foundation, which will recycle them and donate a wheelchair to someone in need.

Our MOT Coaches in Burgersdorp, Eastern Cape, launched a campaign to collect toiletry items to support learners in schools and the local community. These donations made a meaningful impact by providing youth with access to essential care items. The Burgersdorp Social Development team also played a proud and active role in helping to gather these contributions.

Our MOT Coaches and MOT Youth at Port Elizabeth TVET College also showed the Courage to Care by donating sandwiches from their Hospitality students to a local old age home. The residents were so thankful for the kind gesture!

Who Participated?

We are so proud of all of our partnering schools, colleges, and organizations that participated:

In the Western Cape: Fairmount Secondary School, Gardens Commercial High School, Zeekoevlei High School, Pebbles Project, College of Cape Town, False Bay TVET College, West Coast TVET College, and their campuses, and STADIO Higher Education, Centurion Campus.

In the Eastern Cape: Eureka Primary School, Ethemberni High School, Mzimkhulu High School and Port Elizabeth TVET College.

Each site worked hard to collect donations, involving students, teachers, and their local communities to make the campaign a success.

The Impact of the Courage to Care Day Campaign

The results of the campaign were amazing as we were able to contribute to providing the gift of mobility to those who need wheelchairs.

The toiletry drive organized by the MOT Coaches in Burgersdorp, with support from community businesses, successfully provided essential items to local schoolchildren. This initiative offered meaningful support to those in need of a helping hand.

Feedback from our sites

  • “It feels so good to know that collecting something so small, like bottle tops and tags, can make a big difference for someone else. This campaign showed us that even small efforts matter.”
  • “The campaign showed our students how they could be part of the solution for others, teaching them the value of community care.”

Why This Matters

The Courage to Care Campaign is all about showing kindness and helping others. It’s a reminder that small actions—like collecting items or donating toiletries—can change someone’s life.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this campaign. Your efforts have made a big impact, and together, we’ve shown the true meaning of caring for others.

We look forward to next year’s campaign and continuing to make a difference together!
