On 16 August 2019, MOT SA celebrated our Courage to Care Day.
Courage to Care Day is a day where MOT Enthusiasts celebrate by doing an act or many acts of kindness that will make the world a warmer and safer place to live in.
Courage to Care Day aligns with MOT’s core values – Courage to Live, Courage to Care and Courage to Say no, as well as MOT’s Vision to create a warmer and safer society.
We believe that each person has the power and courage to make a difference in the lives of others, no matter how small.
We encouraged our MOT Enthusiasts to take part in this day. View below to see what they got up to!
MOT Youth, Charmaine Anthony from Atlantis Campus collected toiletries for girls and boys in grade 7 at Chatsworth Primary School from donations received from friends. She said that she reached her goal this year by getting boys toiletries too, because last year, she only managed to give to the grade 7 girls. She is targeting 3 more schools to do the same.
The MOT Youth, Young MOTivators and MOT Coaches went all out in preparing and having a surprise high tea for the General Assistants at the campus. This was arranged to show their appreciation for everything the General Assistants do on a daily basis.
The Young MOTivators from Fish Hoek Campus along with their MOT Coach visited TEARS Animal Rescue (The Emma Animal Rescue Society), an animal shelter where they spent some time with the dogs, feeding and showing love and care to them. They handed over food, toys and clothes for the animals. They also treated the staff at the animal shelter with bites to eat, as a token of appreciation for all the love and care they provide to the dogs.
Our Young MOTivators, MOT Youth and their MOT Coach from Wynberg Campus, prepared and handed out sandwiches in Wynberg and Lansdowne to passabys.
The Young MOTivators from Simon’s Town High School spent the day with Simon’s Town Primary School learners and grade R learners. They split up into different groups reading to the kids and playing games with them. The kids opened up and shared what they would like to be when they grow up.
The Young MOTivators shared that they cherished every single moment with them, and the kids enjoyed every second with them and were sad to see them leave.
“It was an amazing opportunity for us to see their faces light up with joy and amusement. I’m glad we made a difference in their lives.”
The Young MOTivators from PE TVET College, Dower Campus were invited to their PE TVET College, Russell Road Campus in celebration of Mandela Day. Young MOTivator, Nanziwe Daisy Mbatha delivered a speech on how the choices we make determine our future as well as the importance of Education.
The Young MOTivators from Dower Campus have also continued with their sanitary towel drive that started in 2018 and regularly visit and donate to the learners at their adopted Primary School in Port Elizabeth!
For Courage to Care Day, the MOT Office visited Masigcine Children’s Home. It was so lovely getting to spend time with the kids, playing and getting to know them and also give a little something to the home from donations that we collected leading up to the day. It was so sad to leave the little ones, but we plan to visit them soon.
The kids ended off the day by singing a beautiful song to us!
