This month, we are proud to introduce Aluwela Khiba as our MOT Youth Blogger of the Month. Aluwela is a Young MOTivator and a learner at our partnering school, Gardens Commercial High School in Cape Town. Her story is a beautiful reminder of what it means to grow through courage, step into leadership, and keep choosing to rise.
My name is Aluwela Khiba, and I’m from eKhayelitsha. I’m a learner at Gardens Commercial High School in Cape Town and a proud Young MOTivator. I joined the MOT programme in 2022, in Grade 8, just as I began my high school journey and a new chapter in my life.
The MOT programme has taught me many valuable life lessons, with a focus on courage. Through this programme, I have gained the confidence to face my fears and take bold steps towards pursuing what I love and enjoy. The MOT programme has had a significant positive impact on my life by inspiring me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new opportunities.
In 2024, I was selected to become a Young MOTivator, in which myself and a few other MOT youth from my school and other schools came together to become peer educators and attend the Young MOTivators’ Education (Youth Leadership Camp). It was a great experience getting to know different people and learning how to be a peer leader, and using my position as a leader to be a role model and lead with courage. I’m so glad and will forever be grateful for this opportunity. I’ve also enjoyed the other opportunities we get, such as attending inspiring MOT events, workshops, and being with other youth.
In addition to the personal growth I’ve experienced, I have also become involved in various school organizations, including Justice Desk Africa (focused on human rights) where I am one of the Youth Ambassadors, the Interact Club (which is involved in outreach), and the RCL (Representative Council of Learners). These organizations have further strengthened my courage and commitment to making a difference in my community.
I am grateful for the lessons and opportunities that the MOT programme has provided, and I continue to be inspired by the courage it encourages.
Thank you, Aluwela, for sharing your MOTivating story with us. Your journey is powerful because it shows how courage grows, not all at once, but through every brave step you take, every opportunity you accept, and every time you choose to lead even when it feels uncomfortable.
We are so proud of you for representing your school, your community, and yourself with such strength. Keep going, keep believing, and keep leading with courage, your story is inspiring others more than you know.
