We recently had the privilege of spending meaningful time with parents from Mzimkhulu Primary School, Ethembeni High School, and Eureka High School during our MOT Parent Workshops in Burgersdorp, Eastern Cape. It was truly inspiring to see so many parents come together with a shared goal: to better support and guide their children.
From the moment parents arrived and registered, there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The day officially opened with a heartfelt welcome, followed by a fun ice breaker that helped everyone relax, connect, and feel comfortable.
As the workshop continued, we explored what MOT is all about, a programme focused on helping young people build courage, resilience, and strong values. Through the sessions led by Andiswa Makha, parents were introduced to the MOT philosophy and its core values in a way that was simple, practical, and easy to relate to.
What made the day special was the level of participation. Parents didn’t just listen, they actively took part in activities. They also engaged in role play and group discussions, where they shared real-life parenting experiences, challenges, and ideas. These moments created a safe space where everyone could learn from one another.
There were also moments of encouragement, reminding parents just how important their role is in shaping their children’s lives. Many left feeling motivated, supported, and more confident in their parenting journey.
The day ended on a positive note with a closing circle and feedback session, where parents shared their thoughts and appreciated the opportunity to be part of something so meaningful.
Overall, the workshops across the three schools were a great success. They reminded us that when parents come together, share, and grow, it strengthens not just families, but entire communities.
As we were reminded during the workshop:
“When we empower parents, we strengthen families. And when we strengthen families, we raise resilient, courageous children who can change the world.”
A big thank you to all the parents, facilitators, and schools who made this day so special.
