Reflections on 2024: MOT South Africa’s Year of Impact and Growth

Reflections on 2024

As we welcome 2025, MOT South Africa wants to thank you all, our MOT Family, supporters and friends for your support which has helped us make a big difference and achieve so much in 2024. Here’s to another year of courage and making a difference together!

2024: A Year of Achievements and Inspiration

This year marked another remarkable chapter in the MOT South Africa story—a year filled with milestones, collaborative efforts, and impactful initiatives that have left a lasting imprint on the lives of young people across the country. Let’s look back on some of the key moments that defined 2024.

Hello Campaign Highlights!

We started the year with the Courage to Care through our Hello Campaign! Running from 19 February to 25 March, the campaign encouraged meaningful connections through the simple act of saying “Hello!” and genuinely connecting with others.

The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the campaign’s impact. One participant shared: “Thank you so much for this opportunity. This was a good experience, normally we don’t have the chance to sit down and have a normal conversation. Saying hello with a meaning was really interesting. Thank you once again!”

Another reflected on the deeper connections made: “It was insightful to know how much you don’t know about someone you spend so much time with. People’s moods also change positively when you take an interest in them.”

Celebrating Research Findings from SPHER3: MOT SA Courage to Care Rotary Global Project

The next highlight of our journey was announcing the incredible research results at our Schools Impact Report Event, a proud milestone in our 3-year Courage to Care Rotary Global Project. Prepared by SPHER3 and in collaboration with The Rotary Club of Wynberg, Haugaland Upper Secondary School, Karmøy Rotary Club, Rotary District 9350, and the Rotary Foundation, these findings reaffirmed what we already know: #MOTWorks!

Here’s what the results revealed:

  • 80% of learners reported an improved school experience (“quality of life”).
  • 98% appreciated the sense of community and support fostered by the MOT programme.
  • 76% saw positive spillover effects in their home lives.
  • 80% achieved the core MOT outcomes: The Courage to Live, The Courage to Care, and The Courage to Say No.

Empowering Youth: Highlights from the Voices of Courage Campaign

group picture

We had a MOTivating month as we launched the Voices of Courage Campaign in partnership with Tyger Valley Cares at Tyger Valley Shopping Centre. This inspiring event aimed to empower youth through impactful talks, activities, and performances.

Throughout the month, we engaged with the community at our pop-up station, offering valuable life lessons and encouraging young people to find and use their voices. We also held weekly events in which we were thrilled to have MOT Brand Ambassadors Carl Wastie, Andile Nebulane, Karen Zoid, Bianca Flanders, and other community members join us to inspire the youth!

Some of the feedback we received included:
“The MOT program is truly making a difference in the lives of young people, and events like this are a testament to its impact.”

“It was such an amazing experience and a great opportunity to meet new people and learn their stories. Every speaker had something important to say and contributed greatly to supporting the youth.”

Courage to Care Day Campaign 2024: Making a Difference Together

sites courage to care

Our goal for the 2024 Courage to Care Day Campaign, which ran from September to October was to encourage the Courage to Care and contribute to providing mobility to those in need through the Sweethearts Foundation.

With the help of our MOT sites across the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, we achieved this goal!

The community came together, making a difference through small acts of care that showed the true meaning of supporting one another. Thank you to all who contributed!

MOT SA’s Stakeholder Meeting: Burgersdorp, Eastern Cape

We celebrated the milestone of completing three impactful years in Burgersdorp, Eastern Cape, at a special Stakeholder Meeting held at the Burgersdorp Cultural History Museum. The event brought together key community leaders, including Scatec, local police, and the Department of Health, to reflect on the progress of the MOT Programme and plan for the future.

MOT Super Coach, Sanelisiwe Sikweyiya shared inspiring stories of how the programme has empowered youth.  “We cannot lose this programme now,” Sanelisiwe said. “The stories from the students show how much MOT means to them and the community.”

MOT Coaches’ Basic Education

MOT coaches in an activity

We proudly hosted four MOT Coaches’ Basic Education workshops in 2024! This training focuses on equipping educators, lecturers, and youth workers with the tools to implement the MOT programme and support young people’s personal growth. This year, 8,596 learners participated in the MOT youth programme, with 2,336 graduating after three years of MOT!

MOT Coaches played a crucial role in facilitating the programme at schools and supporting the personal growth of these young people. We thank you for the positive impact and your love of MOT!

Young MOTivators’ Education Camp 2024: Empowering Youth Leaders

We hosted our first-ever Young MOTivators’ Education Camp of the year, marking the first time we combined youth from both the Eastern Cape and Western Cape! This three-day camp trained 60 young leaders from schools across both provinces to become values-driven leaders in their communities.

Through team-building activities, communication exercises, and leadership training, our young MOTivators learned how to lead with the Courage to Care, Live, and the power of saying “no” when needed. They left the camp inspired, ready to uplift others and make a positive impact.

Ending the Year on a High Note: A New and Exciting Partnership

WCED and MOT PBIRC

We ended the year with exciting news! We are proud to share that we are now partnered with the Positive Behaviour Intervention and Resource Centre (PBIRC) in Wynberg, working alongside the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) to empower youth across ten schools in the Metro Central Education District through the MOT programme.

To celebrate this new chapter, we hosted the Principals’ Best Practice for Implementation event, where new and current school principals came together to share best practices for integrating the MOT programme into their schools.

We’re excited about the difference this partnership will make and the opportunities it will create for students to develop essential life skills and become the leaders of tomorrow. Together, we’re building a brighter future for our communities!
